NOMUS is the youngest contemporary art museum in Poland. Its spaces created in the former school workshop building on historical grounds of Gdańsk Shipyard have been inaugurated in 2021. We were invited to participate in creating this extraordinary initiative by designing a „Collection In Action” exhibition which accompanied the inauguration and is being presented for the first year of its existence.
Contemporary art collection is by its nature very diverse in forms and contents, therefore its proper and consistent presentation poses a big challenge.
Very expressive NOMUS visual identification composed of black and white contrasts bordered with strait, cutting-like edges became a starting point for a design. It was an obvious decision to use black as a leading color in contrast with white of museum halls. Designed forms accompanying the exhibits have a strait, unequivocal edges which we accomplished by constructing them from steel, black colored sheets.
