A multi-sensory playground? In the very center of the city? Plus – in a museum and in the company of excellent modern works of art? On the first day of summer holidays in 2022, we opened a unique space dedicated to children, which we designed to bring the youngest closer to the most sensual field of art – sculpture. You could touch, mold, smell, listen – experience the sculptural materials with all your senses.
The exhibition space has been divided into four modules. Each is a story about a different sculpting material: wood, clay, stone and metal. The tool-objects presented at the exhibition allowed children to experience the tactile properties and workshop functions of individual raw materials.
For each sculpting material we designed a space for sensory familiarization, for getting to know the tools, and a workshop where you could make your own works of art. Children could also admire up close – without barriers and cloches typical for museums – museum exhibits from the MNG collection.
The exhibition “… Rzeźba Patrzy” is a diverse space designed for children, complemented by a riot of colors of patterns designed by Michał Pecko. We wanted to use a material that would not only be able to reproduce these patterns as best as possible, but also a natural material that would give freedom in the construction of scenographic forms. Using cardboard plates, the exhibition took the shape of interpenetrating fairy-tale plans that create very unobvious backgrounds for sculptural works of art.
